UK Hyperacute Stroke Research Network

The UK Hyperacute Stroke Reserch Network was set up by the National Institute for helath Reserch in 2010 to improve enrolment of patietns into reserch trials assessing treaments in the hyperacute phase of stroke, when the brain is threatened but not irreversibly damaged. Being able to recruiit and trat patietns rapidly after stroke requres specialist skills and equipment, and hyperacute stroke reserch centres (HSRCs) are designed to deliver this.

Hyperacute stroke trials are defined as

1. ‎Within 9 h of onset (as defined by study protocol): any stroke RCT and any observational study where consent is taken within this time frame

2. Within 24 hours: Phase 2 studies, CTIMP and device trials

3. No fixed time requirement: Mechanical thrombectomy RCTs, other RCTs of treatments requiring perfusion based imaging
